October is one of my favorite months.  It means Halloween is coming and it's time to watch some scary movies.  I'm seldom happier than when I'm curled up with my sweetheart on a Saturday night in October, with some popcorn (extra butter, thank you) and a box of movie candy (Sno-Caps or Raisinets), to watch a horror movie.  I have a particular fondness for the black-and-white Universal films from the thirties and forties, and if the movie includes a castle on a dark and stormy night, so much the better.  The opening sequence of Son of Frankenstein is a quintessential example.

Having said that, it would give me great pleasure to provide you some Halloween chills by reading you a scary short story.  I don't mean to sound immodest, but I'm good at it.  I've done some acting and have recorded for an audiobook company, and for years friends have listened to my recordings on Halloween and enjoyed them.

Since in here it's Halloween all year long, now it's time to turn off the lights...turn on the candles. Pour yourself a glass of wine. Red, of course. Gather around the fireplace, and let us lose ourselves in the darkest regions of the Shadowland. Click on the Audio Chills button, then from the drop-down list choose between two of the all-time masters of the macabre:
Edgar Allan Poe or H.P.Lovecraft.
